AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds is a division of the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB), a statutory levy board, funded by farmers, growers and others in the supply chain and managed independently of both commercial industry and of Government.

Its purpose is to make agriculture and horticulture industries more competitive and sustainable through factual, evidence-based advice, information and activity.

AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds Board and Committees

The AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds Board meets five times a year.

AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds Board members are appointed for a three year term and receive £256.25 per day plus expenses for their time at board meetings and other related work they may be asked to undertake.

The Cereals & Oilseeds Chairman who is also an AHDB Board Member is appointed by Defra and receives £48,000 for a minimum of 156 days per year plus expenses.  This figure has changed to £32,000 for a minimum of 104 days for all new Sector Chairs appointed after April 2013.  All Board member expenses are in line with HMRC recommended rates.

AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds Board members are appointed by the Cereals & Oilseeds Chairman and a representative(s) from the AHDB Board through an open appointments system.

The Cereals & Oilseeds Board is responsible for strategy in the cereals and oilseeds sector, and submits an Annual Business Plan to AHDB for publication in the annual AHDB Corporate Plan. The Cereals & Oilseeds Board is also responsible for deployment of cereal and oilseed levies against delivery of its Sector Annual Business Plan. The AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds Business Plan 2016-2019 includes the strategies, activity plans, and targets agreed by the Cereals & Oilseeds sector board. It benefits from a consultation with levy payers and industry organisations, whose comments and observations are taken into account.

AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds has a number of Advisory Committees which report to the Cereals & Oilseeds Board. Membership of Advisory Committees is approved by the Cereals & Oilseeds Board.
